New Aparment!!

We're moving into a one bedroom in May, yay for us! Our studio apartment seems to just get smaller, we're so ready to have more space. Our new apartment is north east corner unit on the 11th floor. Our view will be so city! To the north we look over Lake Michigan, The Field Museum, and Navy Pier off in the distance (close enough to have a great view of the July 4th fireworks and the Air and Water Show) Out to the east we'll be looking back towards downtown.

Even though, we still have two months until the move, I'm already itching to pick paint colors and to look for a couple new pieces of furniture. I plan on using this blog to keep track of my ideas and work through decorating ideas. I'm ready to have a place that feels more like home and less like an apartment we're just staying in until we find something better.

Paul Frank for Andi Jo

My niece Andi Jo is turning 2 in March! Time sure flies, it seems like just yesterday I was sitting in my freezing cold apartment in Big Rapids waiting for the news that she had made her entrance into the world. I love buying gifts, but I think it's so so hard to buy for little kids, because they out grow clothes and toys so fast. While in the Paul Frank Store last night, I found the solution to my dilemma, a gift that she can enjoy now and won't grow out of too fast if ever...a bedtime story and P.Js.

I'd like to some sort of bedtime snack to go with it, but not sure yet what that will be. Suggestions?

Not So City Design...

I work for a real estate company. Because of my role on the team, I see a lot of marketing materials, business cards, and websites of other realtors. There is  A LOT of room for improvement as far as the design of these materials is concerned. The people I work for actually have a pretty good understanding of how important "good design" is when building a branding yourself, which is nice, but they're one of the few.

For instance today, I was addressing envelopes to contacts my boss met in New Orleans, LA while at a conference last weekend. I was using the addresses on the business cards (all but one of these were designed poorly, the one nicely designed one was the only non-realtor) one of the business cards didn't have an address on it, so I went to the website listed on the card and it was just nasty. Did you notice the URL? Know Payne Know Gain...I laughed for a good 5 minutes at that! It makes sense when you read it because you see the spellings of the words, but can you imagine telling someone to go to knowpayneknowgain.com....you'd have to explain it every time.

The point is there is a lot of not so city design in the real estate world. If wasn't a conflict of interested and helping the competition, I'd be inclined focus a freelance career on helping real estate agents build their brands.

I Want!

I am in love with the Parlour Sofa from CB2. If I can talk my husband into buying a bright lemongrass colored sofa, it's going to be mine, when we move in May. I love it against the gray wall too and gray just happens to be one of my favorite colors. I have two blue and yellow swirled vases that were a wedding gift from my one of my bridesmaids, they would be a perfect fit for a room as city as this. Crossing my fingers that it's mine someday soon!

Mini Polaroids, so cute!

My parents gave Tim and I a Fugi Instax Instant Camera for Christmas. It takes credit card sized polaroid pictures. The camera is made of plastic, the film is easy to load, plus it looks adorable. Tim and I love walking around the city taking pictures with it. I've got a plan for the pictures above, but I need about 5 more with same lighting, before I can get started on my project. I'll post pictures when it's complete!

I'm here to stay.

I've been blogging on and off for over a year. I started my old blog Feast on Design, for a design course while at Ferris State University. While I liked blogging, I didn't do it very often, especially after I graduated last May. Now that I'm a few pages into the next chapter of my life, I want to change that.

I graduated with a BS in Graphic Design. I don't really get to use those skills much in my current job, so I'm hoping to use this blog to keep myself searching for, admiring, and creating good design, while also sharing other events/things/moments/people in my life that are "so city".

Big Plans

I have big plans for this blog. But right now I need to go spend some quality time with my husband, since we don't see much of each other these days.
