Broken Glass

For being a designer, I'm really not very crafty. We had beautiful blown glass bowl that was a wedding gift, but it got knocked off of the table it was on and it broke :(

I wanted to break it into smaller pieces and glue the pieces to the frames of these little square mirrors I have, but that FAILED miserably! I still wanted to do something with it, because the gift meant/means a lot to us and it's really pretty glass. So instead I put the bits in a jar. It actually goes perfectly with our unity sand and the cardboard 'K' that I still need to glitter!

Currently Lovin'

If I could buy any three things right this instant, I'd be dropping cash on these things...

1. Savannah Story Bust, Giraffe (Anthropologie) I'm in love with this handmade papier mache animal head. It's made of recycled materials to boot. Right now, I'd probably hang it in our living room, but in like 2.5 years, wouldn't it be adorable in a nursery?

2. Slot Coffee Table (CB2) Our living room still isn't complete. We need a coffee table, preferably this one, and we still don't have an arm chair. Don't ask me what's taking us so long to get them...I don't have the answer. I wish I could furnish our whole apartment with CB2. I love everything in that dang store!

3. QuickKutz Letterpress Machine (Paper Source) Um, if this actually works well, it's be sweet to have. Who wouldn't want to be able to make their very own letterpress greeting cards?!

NICE Assignment: Sharing is Caring

This weeks NICE Assignment reminded me how important it is to share. It seems like an obvious thing to do, since you're taught it at an early age. But I think as adults, sometimes we forget that even though we're not playing with toys in the sandbox anymore, there are still things we need to share!

For me, it's the TV. I hog the remote and hog the TV. Pretty much the only time my hubby gets control, is when I'm not home or I'm asleep. Otherwise, I'm either watching it or I'm stopping him from watching it. So, in an effort to share...I tried to give him some more control, of course I couldn't miss Project Runway on Thursday, but I did miss "On the Road with Santino and Austin" just so he could watch something or play his video games. I'm going to play nice and share the TV more often. I think Tim will appreciate it :)

Oh! I finally got my hair cut and colored today!! I love it!!

My Style | Tall Boots

By no means, do I consider myself a fashionista. More often than not, I stare blankly into my closet wondering what to wear. And then asking Tim a million times, "Do I look alright" "Are you sure? You're not just saying that to shut me up, are you?!"

I think this is partly because, now that I live in Chicago, there is this imaginary pressure in my life to dress more "city". But despite those feelings, occasionally I pull together a cute outfit. And it seems like every blogger out there does a style post. So I've decided to try taking a crack at writing a style post every now and then.

The topic of my first "My Style" post...how I style my tall boots, inspired by Mama Bear's comment on my Boot Scoot and Boogie post. You'll have to forgive my hurried Photoshop techniques and my face. I  was planning on cropping my head out, but it just looked weird...

Look 1: For this first look I paired my new brown boots with skinny black jeans and a menswear inspired button down (I bought mine at Forever 21, but if you and your man are close to the same size, just borrow one of his!). To make it look a little more polished, I added the blazer. Some people don't think you can/should wear black and brown together, personally I like it. They're both neutrals, so they go with anything, even each other!

Look 2: This look, I was most self conscious about wearing, I always feel that way in leggings...I don't know why though. It was really comfy! I cinched the wrap sweater at the waist with a belt, it doesn't really show up in the picture though. This type of outfit is perfect for a warm Fall day.

Look 3: Dress + tights + boots = cute. That's my general rule of thumb. You may not be a fan of my bright pink stripped tights with the blue and black plaid dress. But I think it works, and I'm the one wearing it right?! And just so you all know, the plaid is very very small.

I guess that's about it...let me know what you think of me doing style posts...I don't want to do them if everyone thinks I dress horribly!! Wait...on second thought, maybe I don't want to know if you think that...

Catch-22

I'm one tenth of the way to completing #25 on my 25 Before Twenty-Five list. I read the last few pages of Catch-22 this evening. I had tried to read it a couple times before, but could never get into. But I didn't have any trouble this time. I really enjoyed it!

So what's the catch?
"...hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule from which the book takes its title: a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but if he makes the necessary formal request to be relieved of such missions, the very act of making the request proves that he is sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved."
It's a satirical historical novel, set during the later part of WWII. It's actually pretty funny. It can be a little hard to follow sometimes, but that could have been that I read the majority of it while on the crowded train and bus. The wife of one of the characters moves to Lansing, MI. I thought that was pretty random/cool since I grew up close to Lansing.

Hmm.. which one of the All TIME 100 Novels should I read next?

Rocky Horror Show

Hope everyone had a fun weekend. We sure did! Saturday night some friends came into town and we had a delish dinner at Villians and then went to see the Rocky Horror Show at Stage 773. It was a great performance, and we all had tons of fun. If it's your first time seeing the show, you're a "virgin" and they put a V on your forehead with red lipstick. Here we are after getting our V's

Sunday, hubby and I had a nice relaxing day. I took a 3 hour nap while he watched Da Bears lose. Then we went for a walk in the park to enjoy the beautiful weather we've been having. We of course had to stop and get an annual Bean picture. The we checked out Art Loop in the 37 Block shops.  Sometimes it's fun being touristy in your own city!

Boot Scoot & Boogie!

If you're reading this, you probably read my blog often. So you would know that I've wanting or more like lusting after the Boker Boot from Aldo. Sad news my friends, I will not be getting them. I tried on over the knee boots at DSW the other day, let's just say they don't do anything for me. This makes me a little sad, but I've found a good alternative.

Enter these BDG leather boots from Urban Outfitters. The best thing about them? They're already in my closet! I bought them Thursday night on my way home from work. I wore them to work on Friday and I'm in love.

I love everything about this poster. The illustration style, the type and the nod to optimism and   Buckminster Fuller.

NICE Assignment: I Miss You

For the first time, since I've started doing NICE Assignments, I skipped one! Last week's or maybe it was posted the week before, not sure...I could go look it up, bu I'm not going to. The assignment was to tell a stranger, who was a woman, that she was beautiful. I was way to chicken, and didn't go through with it. I'm a little disappointed in myself.

This week's assignment was to:
"tell someone that you care about (who maybe you can't be with) just how much you miss them. Even though in your head, absence is making your heart grow fonder, that person might assume that since they are out of your sight, they are out of your mind."
I plan on sending a card to go along with this, but I haven't got around to it...I've had kind of a weird week.

I have a friend, Ashley, who has always been like family to me and well my real family. She's my "I miss you" it's no secret that I'm really bad at talking on the phone, I don't really call many people, combine that with Ashely being in medical school in Michigan (I'm in Illinois), you get two friends who don't get to see or hear from each other very often.

Ashley and I have one of those friendships, where it doesn't matter how much time has passed, things just pick right back up where they left off each time we see each other. Well, at least I feel that way. I hope she does too.

Ashley, if you're reading this, I miss you. I know I'm not the best at keeping in touch. I should get better. You're one of the smartest, most beautiful people I know. I'm so blessed to have a friend like you!

Florence and the Machine

If you're not, you should be listening to Florence and the Machine. Love, love, love the entire album!
