NICE Assignment x2!

Uh oh! I'm two NICE Assignments behind.

Last week's NICE Assignment was to smile more. I'm not sure if I actually did...I tried though. But I'm going to keep trying. I've always been one of those people who looks like they're mad at the world, even though I rarely ever am.

This week's assignment is to practice forgiveness. The idea came from a Mayo Clinic article, Forgiveness: Letting Go of Grudges and Bitterness. If you read Melissa's post, you'll see she's kind of light hearted about it. But after reading the article, it really resonated with me because of some ongoing issues with my extended family. I've forgiven them, but recently because of things that have been said, my hurt and angering feelings have been resurfacing. I'm definitely not going to go into details, but below I've included parts of the article that brought me comfort. If you been holding a grudge or struggling with forgiveness, I suggest reading the article.

Forgiveness can be challenging. It may be particularly hard to forgive someone who doesn't admit wrong or doesn't speak of his or her sorrow. If you find yourself stuck, it may help to write in a journal, pray or use guided meditation . . . Keep in mind that forgiveness has the potential to increase your sense of integrity, peace and overall well-being.
One of the hardest things about forgiveness is this situation, was/is that the others don't think they did anything wrong or victimized us. We all did wrong, my mom and I both apologized—our apologies weren't accepted. We were never asked for forgiveness or apologized to, and that almost hurts just as bad. The section of the article below really speaks to that.
Getting another person to change his or her actions, behavior or words isn't the point of forgiveness. Think of forgiveness more about how it can change your life — by bringing you more peace, happiness, and emotional and spiritual healing. Forgiveness takes away the power the other person continues to wield in your life.

It's a Celebration!

My three foster siblings are going to their forever home! It's a really bittersweet time at my parent's house. While we're all thrilled that they'll finally have a family they know is theirs forever, we'll surely miss them! After living with my parents for a year and a half, we've all come to think of them and treat them like our real sisters and brother. On Sunday, they're having a super casual celebration/goodbye party for the kids. This is the invite that I quickly put together for my momma to send out. Just thought I'd share.

Meet me in St. Louis

Wow, I've been sort of bad at this whole blogging thing lately. I promise to stay on top of it from here on out.

This past Sunday, was our first wedding anniversary. To celebrate we took a long weekend and traveled to St. Louis, MO. Why St. Louis? To cross Missouri off of our list of course!

Last summer we decided that we would vacation in all 50 of the United States. We have a couple rules that have to be followed in order to cross a state off our list.
  • We must spend at least 2 nights in the state
  • We have to do at least 1 really "touristy" thing
  • Once we reach our destination, we must try not eat anywhere that we would normally be able to

Our trip to St. Louis was a success! We took the Amtrak there and back, which was so nice because we usually bicker in the car (I'll take the blame for that, I'm a horrible backseat driver) and that doesn't always make for the most enjoyable car rides! But not having our car meant lot's of walking and conquering the MetroLink.

We did lot's of touristy things. We went to the top of the Gateway Arch, visited St. Louis Union Station (similar to Chicago's Navy Pier), the St. Louis Zoo, went to the Art Museum and explored downtown. We ate a couple good restaurants and one really GREAT one! For our anniversary dinner we ate at Landry's Seafood House, and it was DELISH!

We had a great trip and are so excited to have three states filled in on our map! We've already decided where we want to go next...Vegas baby!

NICE Assignment: Help Me Celebrate

This month is the 2 year blogiversary of Operation NICE. In celebration, Melissa asked her readers to participate in leaving NICE notes around their hometowns. For every person who participates she is donating $1 to The Hunger Project.

I left a NICE note on a parking pay box on my way to work this morning.

Color Scheme!

The color scheme for our new place will be something like this. We're getting paint tomorrow morning, so painting will be what I'm doing on my extra day off!
